The Skulldana® Story
The SKULLDANA head wrap was originally designed by Cathie in 1993 for a biker friend. He wanted something to stay on his head while in the wind that would keep his hair from getting tied in knots. The final design prevents burned scalp, neck, ears and wind earaches. It holds glasses in place and will not blow off when tied on properly. Cools by evaporation when wet.
After four tries, the SKULLDANA was created. Its unique design provides a slightly stretchy effect. The wide multilayered headband helps it stay on the head.
Needless to say his friends saw his and asked me to make several for them. More and more requests were made. It needed a name. I started brainstorming and came up with SKULLDANA short for a skull cap made out of bandanas.
There was a motorcycle rally in nearby Ignacio, Colorado. I made up a hundred SKULLDANAS. They were hung in the corner of a friends booth. I SOLD OUT. One of my first sales was to an U.S. Senator from Colorado who became a loyal customer and friend. You never know who you will meet at a motorcycle rally.
For the next 23 years, I sold them at motorcycle rallies in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, and South Dakota. I opened my first online store in 1997. I was very busy sewing SKULLDANAS, doing rallies, and running a online store all as a home business.
The name was catchy so I applied for a federally registered trademark in 1999. On several occasions, my lawyers stopped large corporations and a Chinese company from using SKULLDANA. I recently extended my trademark through 2030.
In 2016, I retired to Florida to be closer to my family. I have continued to sell them wholesale. Now I have decided to launch my own online store SKULLDANA BY CATHIE and see what happens next!
